Broadway Comes to Prospect Park
Join Laramade Musical Theatre of New York in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance for a special presentation of ‘La Facon Theater, The Musical”, written and directed by Launce Northe, choreographed by Oral Welshman and drama directed by Dr. Rose October.
The musical explores the history of dance, music and fashion of the Black experience. In this musical, the Church is shown as the foundation and mainstay of Black culture, where it plays a role in their resilience and the site of the development of their aesthetic forms. Laramade Musical Theater is a grassroots entity that focuses on giving back to communities through staging theatrical performances. The thrust is to bring together performers of experts and newcomers to the stage, while addressing historical and topical issues. The theatre company was launched in 2014 and is celebrating its eighth anniversary.
This collaboration connects to the Alliance’s Re-Imagine Lefferts initiative, currently underway, which seeks to re-envision the mission and programming of the park’s historic house museum to recognize its role as a site of slavery and to elevate the voices and contributions of the enslaved Africans who lived and worked the land and the Indigenous people that were forced to leave their ancestral lands.
