Join the Prospect Park Alliance, Council Member Brad Lander and FIDO to celebrate the restoration of Dog Beach, an off-leash dog swimming area near Prospect Park’s Long Meadow. Brooklyn’s dogs faced a “ruff” season without their popular swimming spot, but due to hard work by the Alliance’s in-house design team the project was completed months ahead of schedule.
As part of the restoration, the Alliance replaced concrete and chain-link fencing with natural stone slabs from upstate New York and more discrete cable fencing that safely separates swimming dogs from wildlife. The project also saw removal of invasive plants and planting of native species to enhance the landscape and create a better habitat for wildlife.
To mark the return of this community treasure, you are invited to an opening celebration where dog-friendly cake will be distributed to local “chowhounds.”
Funding for this project was provided by the Brooklyn Borough President’s office, Council Members Brad Lander and Stephen Levin, and the Brooklyn Delegation.
