2016 Tournament Champions

The Prospect Park Tennis Championship has gotten better and stronger each year. This year was no exception. There were several players who have played Futures level tournaments, a very high level of play just below the top pro level. We were especially proud that the top two seeded players in the Mens Singles, Adam Borak (1) and David Keltz (2) were young men that came up through the ranks of our Junior Development Program headed up by Paul Curtin.

Adam made it all the way to the finals, and was edged out by Carlos Carrera who is a very talented player originally from Venezuela. Adam and his brother Nick won our doubles tournament here last year. As juniors in our program they were both recipients of the Mickey Martinez scholarship. The Mens Singles Consolation Final was taken by Aaron Goldberg in a win over Zac Campbell and in the Mens B Consolation Sigfrido Chirinos defeated Liam Quinn.

The Womens Singles had several new entries including Kathryn Kvas who outlasted Gabriela Ospina in the finals. Gabriella has reached the finals several times in the past and we hope she will compete again next year for another shot at the title. The mother daughter team of Jennifer Lehrman and Llana Lehrman defeated Deb Fantera and Julie Nelson  in Women’s Doubles. The Men’s Doubles title went to the team of Chris McGee and Eric Silman. They edged out Dmitry Chernyshev and Sunat Isroilov (6-4((7-5) in the final. The Mixed Doubles team of Yeugeniy Remennik and Francesca Fanchin defeated David Arons and Robbi Siegel. The Mens B Singles final was taken by Ralph Chiaia who took out Ben Herbert in the final.

Thanks to Brian and Nigel for their hard work making the schedules work out and thanks to everyone who participated. We hope to see you again next year!
