Halloween in Prospect Park
August 25, 2026
Prospect Park gets into the spooky spirit with family friendly Halloween activities throughout October. Whether you love a spine-tingling tale or want to explore the creepy crawly creatures of Brooklyn’s Backyard, there are events for everyone to enjoy.
Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Sun, Oct 25, 2–4 pm, Lefferts Historic House, Free, RSVP
Join Prospect Park Alliance for a community reading of Washington Irving’s “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on the porch of Lefferts Historic House. The full version of this famous ghost story, written in 1820 but set in 1790, includes numerous references to the prevalence of slavery in southern New York at the end of the 18th century as well as lengthy descriptions of a Dutch American plantation house quite similar to Lefferts Historic House. Listen to this haunting old tale in a new way and stay for an informal discussion with staff and program partners following the reading.
