Advancing the Park

With more than 10 million visits each year, Prospect Park Alliance works year-round to help protect and sustain its landscapes, from providing additional crews to collect litter in peak summer months, to restoring landscapes and historic structures, to creating innovative Park destinations.

The Alliance’s award-winning design and landscape management teams are dedicated to preserving the original vision of Park designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, while evolving the Park to meet the contemporary needs. A dedicated crew of arborists, horticulturists, architects and landscape architects ensures a seamless balance between the Park’s natural and designed landscapes. Among the Alliance’s acclaimed restoration projects are the historic Prospect Park Carousel, Boathouse, Picnic House, Tennis Center, Parade Ground and the Bailey Fountain and Arch at the Park’s formal entrance, Grand Army Plaza.

In 2013, the Alliance completed its greatest accomplishment to date, Lakeside. Spanning more than 26 acres and designed to honor the original Olmsted and Vaux vision, this $74 million project restored and redesigned an underutilized section of the Park for the benefit of the community. It features the Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Center, the Shelby White and Leon Levy Esplanade and Chaim Baier Music Island.

Current projects include the restoration of the Long Meadow Ball Fields and improvements to the northeast perimeter of the Park.
